Tourneo PHEV: Speed limiter “feature” or motor issue?
Hi (i can read german, but not write very well, so replies in German are very welcome - there are no Danish Tourneo forums 🙂)
On our return trip from Norway to Denmark - total 1000 km - our new Tourneo Custom PHEV started limiting the speeds on the highway, when we reached Denmark. The highest I could go on average on flat terrain was about 120-125km/hr with 130 km/hr downhill and around 110 km/h uphill.
The engine temperature seemed fine, and there were no warnings on the info system. Still there was no power, when I pushed the throttle. I tried disabling all auto assist features, but it made no difference. If I went at slower speeds - like 100 km/hr for a few minutes I could push it to 135 km/hr, but only for a short while, before it dropped to 120-125 km/hr again. The maximum speed allowed in Norway/Sweden is mostly lower than 120km/hr, so maybe the problem was already present before reaching Denmark, without me noticing it.
We had been driving for about 9-10 hrs and about 800 km, when I noticed the problem. We got the car in December24, and have been driving a total of 3500 km. the trip was with Benzin only (no charging).
I am wondering if it is a motor issue or a “feature” to protect the engine, but that would also be a problem because we intend to the car regularly for long trips for vacation.
Any experiences on the matter?

In which drive mode have you been or did you try changing it?
After such a long trip without charging the battery must have completely discharged (I know - there is always a hidden reserve…).
I am still waiting for my PHEV, but from what I have read so far most owners suggest on longer trips where you need power you should switch either to the sport or heavy load driving profiles to allow the battery to get recharged by the engine.
This is not normal behavior. I have already completed longer journeys with the PHEV. There is no type of performance protection. Off to service with the car!
#1 it was normal mode all the time. I did not switch between modes.
#2 I guess thats the only way forward. Thank you for the reply
