Cost of driving one M3 E36 vs. 330Ci E46...
Hello...
Some people tell me that for driving one M BMW need double money in comparison to "standard" modele. And that M modele need additionaly care and maintenace.
In close future I will buy my second BMW (my first car is 525i, E34). Two model have what I want and cost what I can pay for. M3 E36 3.2 and 330Ci. Both have + and -. M3 have power, agressive look, sound, realy sport car... But 330 is more gentle, newest, more modern, balance between sport and gentle...
My heart want M3 and M3 have all what I want, but brean tell 330 (car is best balance sport, elegance and cost off driving).
What M3 need, that 330 don't need?
What you recomended between this 2 model?
Please, tell me some your experience.

I would buy the 330 because it's newer and has a lot of power, too. If the power isn't enough you could turbocharge it or you could install a compressor. After this it would have more power than the M3. But the most important argument for the 330 is, that in my opinion the E46 looks much better than the E36 😉
also er will sich einen 2.wagen anschaffen ! er hat einen 525i !
und er kann sich nicht zwischen m3 e36 3.2 und 330ci entscheiden !
deswegen frägt er was ihr ihm empfehlen würdet !
aber seine erste frage verstehe ich nicht ! was braucht ein m3, was ein 330 nicht braucht ? ^^^^^^

As far as I see he is from Croatia and that could also be the reason for his "poor" english 😉 Although I think that it's not too difficult to understand what he wants to know..
I also had to decide between E36 M3 (convertible) and E46 330Ci (convertible) and as you can see I chose the E46 - mainly because it is newer, which means: design, year of construction and durability as a direct consequence, costs like taxes and insurance and so on.
To be honest, the 330 is not some kind of racing car. It has power and runs fast, but an M3 is different, of course. So finally you will have to decide, what you want:
- a racer with lots of power but looking and being older or
- a modern, stylish car which also goes fast but not that much
I personally prefer the 330Ci because I think that features, design, handling and so on are more important than that much power. But that surely depends on personal taste...
