Touran Problem 18076 - PD Unit Injector; Cylinder 3 (N242): Electrical Malfunction
The car will not start....
VCDS gives the following error code:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18076 - PD Unit Injector; Cylinder 3 (N242): Electrical Malfunction
P1668 - 000 - -
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 630 /min
Torque: 114.0 Nm
Speed: 0.0 km/h
Load: 0.0 %
Voltage: 11.55 V
Inj. Quantity: 0.00 mg/str
Temperature: 25.2°C
(no units): 16.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The car is a Touran from year 2006 and has a BKD 2.0 TDI motor.
I changed the "Leitungssatz Einspritzduese mit Gluehkerze" VW teil no 03G 971 033 L and checked the different connectors and also the 60 pin ECU connector.
I measured from the round 10 Pin PD connector (PD10) to the "small" 60 Pin ECU connector (ECU60).
PD10 pin 1 <-> ECU60 Pin 48 - PD unit for cylinder 4
PD10 pin 2 <-> ECU60 Pin 47 - PD unit for cylinder 3
PD10 pin 7 <-> ECU60 Pin 46 - PD unit for cylinder 1
PD10 pin 8 <-> ECU60 Pin 01 - PD unit for cylinder 2
PD10 pin 9 <-> ECU60 Pin 31 - Common ground.
After this the PD10 connector was put back in place, and I measured the OHM values form the ECU60 connector across the PD units.
ECU60 Pin 48 <-> ECU Pin 31 - measured 0,8 OHM for injector 4
ECU60 Pin 47 <-> ECU Pin 31 - measured 0,8 OHM for injector 3
ECU60 Pin 46 <-> ECU Pin 31 - measured 0,8 OHM for injector 1
ECU60 Pin 01 <-> ECU Pin 31 - measured 0,8 OHM for injector 2
Identical values...
I don’t think the PD unit or the wiring is faulty.....
But what could the problem be? I still have the error....

hi,
why don´t you think that PD-Unit isn´t defect. i think that the injector is defect or it doesn´t build a high pressure..and so the engine control unit doesn´t start the engine to protect the engine. since when have you this problem. Did you have problems with engine before this problem...for example bucking, high consumption or performance loss...

Hi,
The problem just happend....
The consumption is app. 6,8l/100km, normal for a 2,0 TDI with DSG.
I noticed that the engine was running a bit rough two day ago, but normal power output.
What is the app. price of getting a injector replaced by a VW dealer?
Regards
Thomas
hmm it is curious...when the engine is warm you will not feel the defect injector. often you feel it when the engine is cold and you will start it. I don´t know how much such an injector costs...i think so 200,00 € or more. Are you from Germany. I advise so go to a VW-Service and let it check they have different systems to find out the defect. Don´t change basicly the injector. Be sure that the injector has a defect.

Hi,
The car has been taken to a VW dealer, let's see what they say....

hi,
aaah ok i read it yet intensiv. as i can see the values of the PD is all over constant. Ähhm...and what said the people from vw dealer. well, I had a Touran too it was curious car...i had a many problems...hmm what could your problem be...i´m😕

Hi,
Yes I don't think it is a electrical issue with the PD element....but you are right maybe the injector can not keep the pressure at low RPM. maybe there is a fuel leak from the injector. I have seen this before on a Common Rail Injector on a Peugeot HDI engine....

hi thomas,
i had an akin problem. My 2.0 AZV TDI engine didn´t start..than i checked the fuse of the engine..and is saw that a fuse was opened..than i changed it..and see the engine started...But I think it is the injector

Hi,
VW here in Tarragona Spain changed the Injector no. 3 without any result.....now they say that the cable "bundle" to the ECU (60pin) must be changed and also that the ECU is broken....1000-1500 Euro....
I desided to send the car back home on a car transport....and we rented a Audi Q5 2.0 TDI for the trip home....
I will work on the problem solving on the Touran once the vacation is over.

hi,
you changed the injector without result...then is something wrong with the unit control or egine-control-unit(ECU)..But the VW dealer here in Germany have more experience than the dealers in the other countries. if your car were here in Germany i´m sure vw could find out the problem. Well, let the problems by side, have a nice trip and nice vacation...

Then the car came to DK and I've worked a little more on this.
The following is found:
- Jets are ok (test by Bosch)
- O-ring to the nozzle is ok (new)
- Wiring for nozzles is ok (new)
- Wiring to the ECU is ok (through measurement)
- ECU is ok (replaced with second hand).
If I now run a little trip, everything is ok until the car gets hot .. and these errors appear:

and the engine runs, it seems as if the injection timing is entirely wrong.
I have currently, not seen these errors on the nozzle 1 and 2 ...
I've found that if I monitor the diesel temperature through VCDS channel 07, so it stands at approx. 75 degrees C with warm running engine.
Is this a correct value on a day with 18 degrees C outside?
I unplug the fuel temperature sensor and the temp value dropped to 39 degrees C, since the ECU uses this default value ..
Subsequently, I reset the listed fault codes and the car starts immediately proceed normally at idle and while driving.
I renewed the fuel temperature sensor, but it has no positive effect.
When i monitor with VCDS, see the attrached log, the injection amount on inj. 4 is +2.99 mg/str and that is the cause of my problems I think.
Is there anyone who can give good advice or suggestions for a solution to this?
Thomas
Have i understood correctly!
Your car gets hot. Gets the egnine hot or the diesel-fuel.
How works your engine. Works it smoothly?
By the way the fuel temperature can rise to 120 degres C.
The fuel is pressed and thatswhy the fuel temperture rises and thats normal.
but when your engine temperature rises thats not normal. Where stands the temperature neddle. In the middle 90 degres C.
How is the acceleration of the car.
Hi,
No, the engine temp. is normal 90 degrees C
and if the a fuel temp of 75 degrees C or more is normal, them ok-
When the connector to the fuel temp sensor is disconnected the car runs fine, and the acceleration is normal.
But in VCDS i can see that the injection amount is 2.99 mg/str to high on inj. 4.....
the injecion amount on the other injectors 1-3 is -0.3 mg/str
Why is the injection amount 2.99 mg/str on inj. 4? that could be the cause of this?
Thomas
Are the injectors new???
if not then change the injector 4 with for example injector 2 and than look in VCDS wheter something change.
Look also the injection amount on Zyl. 2...If there the injection amount around 2.99 is..than is the injector fault.
If after change on zyl. 4 the same problem appears..than is something with the control.
