Next-Gen Sensus mit Android Google Maps und Play Store: Android Automotive

Das Thema hatten wir schon in einigen Threads gestriffen, aber nun wird es wieder akut

Google and Volvo announced last year that they were teaming up to build Android into future cars. Such a set up will allow drivers to use their infotainment system independently of their smartphones since the system itself will operate on Android. Volvo says that the first Android-based system will launch in a couple of years.

Dazu ein paar Sachen, die mir auffegallen sind:

• - Keine Angabe, ab wann (Modelljahr 2020?) und für wen (nachrüstbar?, mMn eher nicht)
• - Kein kompletter Zugriffauf den Play Store, sondern nur auf angepasste Apps aus dem Play Store

Wir haben im Hauptforum zum Thema des neuen Systems einen Thread - dort wird ebenso vermutet, dass man neue Hardware benötigt.

Da das Thema wieder am aufkochen ist und es mich selbst sehr interessiert ob die jetzigen Modelle auch und in welcher Form vom Update auf Android Automotive profitieren können, habe ich mal eine Mail an diverse Volvo Media Leute gemacht. Mal schauen was da dann für eine Antwort zurück kommt. Halte euch auf dem laufenden.

I am writing in regards to the following 2 press releases / articles:

The CNET article states:

That said, it won't be long before every Volvo's in-car tech is powered by Google's Android software. "After [XC40], it will roll out in the SPA cars, the larger vehicles," Green said. "It will go into all of our Volvo vehicles. Even before we launch SPA 2 [in 2021] it will have rolled out in almost all the Volvo vehicles."

Therefore I wanted to ask whether Android Automotive will be availble for the current Volvo SPA Fleet as an Upgrade (e.g. through Software or Hardware Upgrade)? And could you state which SPA Cars would be eligible for upgrade (XC90, V90, XC60, V60?) and by when? If not, will google apps like Google Maps be integrated in to the current Sensus Environment?

I think there will be a huge demand by current Volvo Owners to receive full (full upgrade to Android Automotive) or partial upgrade (google apps for current Sensus Environment).

Aber ich vermute, da wird keine brauchbare Antwort kommen. Ich habe sowas ähnlichs auch schon versucht und nur eine Standardantwort bekommen, im Stil von "Über kommende Produkte wird zu gegebener Zeit informiert..." und "Melden Sie sich bei unserem Newsletter an..." ;)

 

Nächsten Mittwoch wissen wir bestimmt mehr. Ich denke da wird es eine ausführliche Pressemitteilung zu ADAS und Android Automotive geben, neben der für den XC40 BEV.

Habe noch eine weitere Antwort von Karin Wik (Media Relations Volvocars Sverige) erhalten. Da ist die Antwort bezüglich Android Automotive bei den anderen Volvo Modellen noch düsterer:

So nun gibt es offizielle Infos seitens Volvo zu Android Automotive. Alle alten Modelle können leider NICHT upgegraded werden. Ob neben dem XC40 Electric noch weitere MY21 Volvo-Modelle das System erhalten ist noch ungewiss. Für ein Upgrade bräuchte es auch Änderungen an der Hardware, wobei weitere Änderungen an der bestehenden Installation notwendig wären. (gefunden auf dem instagram Account von Volvo)
