Engine goes to 3-4000 rpm just on its own
Hello,
Can someone help me out here ?
I have a car here, Golf II 1.6 cat. from mid 1991, which is still in perfect condition.
However, it has had the following problem regularly over the past 14 years and I have still not found a VW dealer who is able to solve the problem entirely :
Without any visible reason, the car sometimes increases rpm just on its own initiative. This means: when just driving at 60 km/h, it suddenly accelerates to 100 km/h. No need to say this is rather dangerous...
Does someone have any idea what the cause is ?

i think you got a PN engine with 70ps.
check the carburet control cable.
70 ps (only, due to the catalist)
(by the way, I am regular visitor of this forum and I posted here because I think it is about the best around...
For those of you who do not like the Englisch - which I can also understand- , please let me know if you prefer Flemisch or French. However, as I said already, I can try in German, but there is a big chance you will not understand what i mean then... Thanks for your understanding.)

Check the memory of the electronic modul.
May be there's an error saved.
You'll find the errorcodes on the ftp-server
(and your VW dealer should know em ;-)
My car had the same problem a few years ago.
After the change of the electronic modul the problem was fixed.

@Theresias: so ein Quatsch hab ich ja selten gelesen!!! Wenn der arme Mensch hilfe braucht und er nun mal besser Englisch wie Deutsch schreiben kann, dann sollte das wohl kein Problem sein, oder sehen das andere MT-User anders!?

Darüber brauchen wir nicht zu diskutieren, das wurde bereits an anderer Stelle geklärt, englische Beiträge werden in einem gewissen Maß toleriert - aber prinzipiell gilt: es ist ein Forum in deutscher Sprache.

I know this problem from my old Opel Kadett. It runs in self action up to the red rpm zone. Was very fretful.
I solved this problem with a new control box and cleaning throttles.
But you have to check ALL kinds of the errors. If not it needs no long time and you have the same problem again.

Theresias hat ja insofern recht, als dass das hier ein deutschsprachiges Forum ist.
Persönlich habe ich aber kein Problem damit auch Fragen in Englisch zu beantworten, solange hier der überwiegende Teil der Konversation auf Deutsch stattfindet.
Ich sehe hier Toleranz durchaus als gut an, insbesondere wenn man sich vor Augen hält, dass man das den Deutschen im Ausland seit Mitte des letzten Jahrhunderts nichtmehr in dem Maße zugesteht, wie wir es selbst tun.
Übertrieben finde ich seine Position durchaus nicht! Dass das Thema nicht diskussionswürdig ist, merkt er aber zurecht an. Genauso wie unsachliche Kritik in der form des in Frage stellens seiner Person nicht in Ordnung ist.

So, you have got the famous PN motor. Its carb is its only problem. You should try cleaning all the contacts first. They're often disfunctional because of corrosion. Then you should look for leakages.
If these simple steps do not lead to success, you probably have a problem with the electronic part of the carb, which can often be solved only by exchanging the defective part. In this case look for a completely functional carb and use your current one for spare parts.

Just to put thing straight: it was not my intention to start a basic discussion here on whether this is an German speaking or English speaking forum... I just happen to be working for English speaking companies for the past 20 years, so I forget most of the German I learned at school. I verstehe es ist etwas "sentive".
But i found a lot of very useful information on this forum during the past few months, so that is why i prefer to participate in this forum. As i mentioned before, i think it is one of the best around. You are not just talking about the cars and colours you like, but also about more interesting stuff.
