Retrofit Direct TPMS System 3AA 907 273 D

VW Passat

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of finishing up a retrofit of the B7 Direct TPMS system (after having already updated the gateway, updated the KSG / IMMO, and the Instrument Cluster) in my USA Spec 2010 VW CC VR6 4Motion.

@Bronken (@Bronze), used to have a webpage up that I was crosschecking the wiring for this fitment, but I think his website is either down, or he offlined it. I have ELSAWin nonetheless. In any case I have the wiring harness running up in through the Right Side trunk / boot area of the vehicle (behind the right tail light).

As the TPMS uses Pin 1 for CAN LOW and Pin 3 for CAN High, I'm wondering if there's anywhere in the trunk I can source or splice into the CAN LOW and CAN High lines. My vehicle is equipped with the factory backup camera.... is there somewhere on the backup CAM that uses CAN High and CAN Low? Is there someplace else with easier access? Also What about PIN 2 which carries the power to the TPMS module. Is there a good place to tie into for power from the trunk area?

Thanks.

Well a couple of problems.

1) finished running all wiring from RDK to gateway.

2) VCDS - Enabled 65 and 4C in gateway list.

3) 4C wont connect (not sure if it's supossed to) - 65 connects and shows me the RDK but Im not sure if it needs basic setup or what needs to be done here.

4) Instruments in VCDS - changed last bit to 01 to enable TPMS Active.... Click do it. Says coding accepted, but when you go look at the coding again... It reads 00.

5) in the gateway I went into adaptation and ensured EXT CAN was set to active.

6) not sure what exactly I'm doing wrong, but there is nothing in the instruments cluster menus related to TPMS.

7) I also flashed the appropriate HEX values from the Fatigue Detection over to my gateway (7N0 ending in AJ, and VCDS confirms fatigue detection set to active, but there is no menu selection in the instrument cluster for this either.

Your cluster isn't too old, is it?

That's what I'm trying to verify... It's a Premium Color MFD - 3C8-920-980-MX (not 3D but Color). I "thought" that all Premium Color MFDs were updated to support the new functionality. Bronken had suggested i go with this part number prior to retrofitting any EXT CAN functionality, and I believe prior to upgrading my KSG (although my Gateway was updated at that time)...

I'm trying to troubleshoot and figure out where the issue might be. As the Cluster is already in "production" mode, would that dis-allow me from altering the Long Coding on the last byte to enable the TPMS functionality?

If it is in fact the Instrument Cluster not having this capability.... then I'd like to find the appropriate part number (preferably latest and greatest 3D if i'm spending the money).

Hmm, this is all back a few weeks ago,
TPMS
2. 65 only
3. address 65 should be listed and free of errors (disabled if there are no sensors, there are sensors?)
4. last Byte 01, original VCDS? other coding here in cluster works?
5. if coding in 17 is incorrect with 00, therefore no menu is shown

FD
7. enabling over adaption 19, testing via "output test" in 19 should possible and shows a cup of coffee in the cluster
Cluster should have an additional entry far activete/deactivate this sytem

2. - I can confirm 65 Only
3. - I can confirm this is listed, and free of errors - yes the RDK is plugged in all 4 wheels have updated / correct sensors installed
4. No other crazy coding going on in Instruments, nothing custom here that I know of - although.... I do not have any "comfort" menus listed.... only Lights / Convenience sub-menu (will show pictures of cluster).
5. Hmmm yea, for some reason it will not let me SAVE this coding... The cluster is in production mode, would that lock it out? I don't need a security PIN to allow me to save a coding change correct?
7. No additional menus are shown - but then again I do not see Comfort Menus shown either in the Cluster.

Standby I'm going to do a full-scan and post here. I will also post pictures of the MFD screens so you can see that it is a COLOR MFD.

Ok, Attached are some screenshots and the complete full-scan. One thing I just realized.... the comfort convenience menu is somehow missing.... I could have sworn that was there previously... ??? However, I didn't even notice it until now, but now that the 3AA KSG is there.... the comfort / convenience menus are gone. So I guess problem #1 is.... where did my comfort menu / convenience menu go? Could it have gone away after flashing the gateway somehow?

See attached - pictures of cluster, Full-scan log, bin files before and after gateway EEPROM flash.

BIN Files of original and modified gateway attached

The changed eeprom for gateway (fatigue detection) looks ok.
Production mode is bad, but should be disabled coding your cluster. Try to disable it with adaption channel 22, if I right remember.

edit: The 3C8..MX cluster is Passat CC 2009/11-2010/10 and therefore I would think - it's to old.

What about the "Light" Menu in the cluster? Present or absent?

See the pictures from previous post.... the Light Menu is there.

The comfort menu was there before.... I swear it. But now all of a sudden it's gone. You're right that this does show in ETKA as 02-11-2009 to 08-11-2010.... but it is COLOR, and is a high-line model as indicated by the picture of the vehicle when opening closing doors. Is there anyway we can confirm for sure that the problem is with the instrument cluster? Can the EEPROM be flashed?

I'm having a hard time believing the Cluster is too old. If it is... and we can verify that somehow, then I guess I'd like to know the latest and greatest version I can put in that will work.

Ok. No BCM but Light menu in color cluster and 3AA KSG and no comfort convenience menu means that your cluster is from the first Passat CC series based on B6 electric system, similar to 3c8920880g in Europe.
That cluster doesn't support the desired features.

Btw, I do have a spare color mph cluster left in my garage that should be newer. 😉

LOL - Insert favorite curse word here 🙂

OKAY! So..... if that is the case..... What would be the best "latest and greatest" Cluster that I can put in here that will work with my updated KSG and Gateway..... and allow me to use the new TPMS, ACC, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Assist, etc...... I already have the lane departure warning system hooked up as well, just have to finish wiring into the EXT CAN.

Just my luck that the already upgraded Cluster... won't work. Hahahaha.

Let's "verify" that your cluster is what I need to work first. Also, the one i have now, I modified the LEDs to BLUE and put in the Blue Needles... which means I'll have to do that again as well 😠
