Stinkender Innenraum C180 Bj 2008
Hallo ins Forum,
Habe seit längerer Zeit einen beißenden, chemischen Geruch im Auto. Die Teppiche von Fahrer und Beifahrer sondern diesen Geruch ab, um genau zu sein der gelbliche Dämmschaum. Es riecht ungefähr wie Öl.. Ein besonders gesundheitsförderlichen Eindruck macht es auch nicht. Nun wollte ich fragen ob jemand einen ähnlichen Geruch in seinem Fahrzeug hat, und weiß wo sich dieser gelbe Dämmschaum wie der an den Teppichen noch befindet. Eventuell am Getriebetunnel?

war gestern beim Freundlichen, der festgestellt hat, dass der weiß-gelbliche Dämmstoff unter den Teppichen die Ursache für den beißenden Gestank ist. Es handelt sich um einen Materialfehler. Eine Ozonkur kann dagegen nicht helfe. Leider greift die Mercedes Gebrauchtfahrzeuggarantie darauf nicht. Bekomme heute noch ein Angebot zugeschickt für neue Teppiche...bin gespannt.
@pefra69 es handelt sich um einen gepflegten Gebrauchtwagen von Mercedes-Benz aus erster Rentnerhand, die ich dazu auch noch persönlich kenne😉 bin erst seit zwei Tagen hier und werde das Profil selbstverständlich noch vervollständigen..

Teppich hinten.
Der Hersteller Magna war wohl faul, denn er hat diesen Bereich der Fahrgestellnummer nur gestanzt, so das man dort für ca 15 cm den Teppich aufklappen kann.
HERSTELLER Magna, ohne Kunststoff Klappe.
Nur ausgestanzt!!

Hat sich in diesem Kapitel etwas neues ergeben ? Nun nach diversen Jahren riecht mein C180 stubenrein' !

I don't speak German, so I'll write in English, hope nobody don't mind it.
I bought C180 Coupe (2011 prod. year) several months ago. After some time I noticed that smell, you are talking about. Like others who have posted here, I discovered that it was coming from yellow foam under the floor carpet. This smell had a very bad effect on me. I had a headaches after 10 min in car. Very disappointed in the car, although I like it in other aspects. Don’t understand how a premium brand could release a car with such poor materials. Anyway... Now I'm going to find used carpet without this smell and replace it in front and rear. If anyone has done this - did it help? Does it make sense to do this, or is it better to sell the car?

Hi Allex, first: when I bought my 2009er C200 I had the same problem. And I felt quite bruised. (before I had a BMW Series 5) What I did... at sunny days I opened all windows as long as possible. That helped a lot. But it took my some months. As there is spring time ... you got the chance! :-). On the other hand. Until today there is a certain smell. And I tell you what ...my grandpa at that time (50 years ago) had new W123 and it had the same smell. Some things never change. :-). Do you have a sunroof? (I had the feeling it is maybe coming from there)
But I tell you what: I as well was so emberessed that I wanted to sell the car at once. But ... instead I have it until today. Since nearly 8 years. (as second car) It is sporty, has room for the family, you may transport things, it is good and fast on the autobahn, comfortable, but as well it does very well in curves ( tested in the Alps) . For me a perfect car! So be patient. I hope you will discover the advantages. Now disadvantages: Have an eye on the timing chain. It must be changed all 100-150 tkm. And take care for the car underbody. It tends to rust. Front steering arms need to be changed after around 100 tkm. And the motor for the ignition lock . (the zzzet you hear if you put the key in) Brakelines need to be changed after around 10 years. (probaly already done) All in all...this car is good for 500tkm +

Hi! Thanks for supporting. My car doesn't have sunroof.
I sniffed the whole car and noticed that the smell was strongest from the floor mats.
They smelled so bad that I immediately threw them away and bought new ones.
After that, I ventilated the car with the doors and trunk open with hope to completely get rid of the smell.
I ventilated the car for several days from morning to evening.
After a while, I again sniffed the new floor mats and surprise - they began to stink like old ones! Not so strong, but anyway.
So I realized that the source of smell was somewhere deeper.
I removed the carpet and as soon as I smelled this yellow spongy material on the bottom, I realized - this is it.
What else I noticed is that under drivers side the floor was rusty.
And when I removed the carpet - it was wet. (only under drivers side)
Apparently there is a leak somewhere (clogged drains?). Currently I'm trying to find it.
Here you might think that the leak caused the carpet to smell,
but something doesn’t add up - it smells on the passenger side too (where everything is dry)
And the rear carpets also smell.
Since I already ventilated for several days in a row, and it almost didn’t help -
I don’t believe that this can help at all.
I'm worried about how this smell could affect my health, besides the headache.
So I plan to completely change the carpet. So far this is the plan.
Yes, I had a list of things to do, including replacing the chain, but now it doesn't matter.
The main task is to get rid of the smell or get rid of the car.

Dazu habe ich gemerkt, dass der Geruch verschwindet, wenn ich für paar Tage die Lüftung aus mache (OFF Schalter). Kommt der Geruch vielleicht doch aus der Lüftung?

The only reason of that smell is moisture. Check the AC condensate drain pipes, maybe they are leaking water under the carpet.

My guess is that when you turn on the AC, condensation can flow through the drain pipes onto the floor, wet the carpet and then it starts to smell. If you don't use AC, then condensation does not drain and carpet dries out and stops smelling. To reach the AC drain pipes you must remove front driver's and passenger carpet. You can find detailed manual how to do it somewhere in Google or YouTube. It's not too hard. Drain pipes are located on the sides of the center section near the transmission.

Um an die Abflussrohre der Klimaanlage zu gelangen, müssen Sie den vorderen Fahrer- und Beifahrerteppich entfernen. Eine detaillierte Anleitung dazu finden Sie irgendwo bei Google oder YouTube. Es ist nicht allzu schwer. Die Abflussrohre befinden sich an den Seiten des Mittelteils in der Nähe des Getriebes.
So, ich habe jetzt auch den Abflussschlauch vom Kondenswassee überprüft. Alles trocken, auch nach Nutzung der Klimaanlage und heißem Wetter.
