Door Panels Again

VW Golf 5 (1K1/2/3)

Hi,

I need some help and have been asking for a few days now. I promise this will be my last post with regards to this and will be probably taking the car to the dealer if no one knows. I'd like to know if anyone knows or has diagrams on how to dissassemble the interior door panels, especially the rear ones.

Best regards to all,

Nelson

P.S. sorry fo the english.....

Hi Nsabino,

let´s try it once again. In my former car (Golf IV) I removed the door panels several times and it was absolutly no problem. To remove one panel it took me not more than 2 minutes. I checked the situation at my new car and I must say there shouldn´t be any great differences.
In my opinion you must start as follows (if I were you I would start in this way):
First it´s important to remove the upper part of the handle (I´m talking about the rear doors). Behind this part of the handle there should be one or two screws, remove them. But how to remove the upper part of the handle? In my Golf IV I pushed a screwdriver from the left side the upper part of the handle (between fabric or cloth and the plastic of the handle). Then draw the screwdriver a bit to you to lever the handle of. But be careful, I didn´t do this with my own car.
Next remove one screw at the bottom of the panel, you need a "Torx" screwdriver "T15". Next you draw the panel from the door, start from the bottom. Be careful of the clips which hold the panel at the door.
Next you hold the panel between your hands and lift it up from the under part of the door window. Now the door panel should be off. The only thing left to do for you is to take off the plug of the window lifter switch and the stream (Bowdenzug) of the door opener. It really sound very difficult but in my former car it never took me more than 2 minutes.
But be careful of what you do, as you know I have no expierience with a Golf V, but the procedure should be the nearly the same. And remember "no risk no fun". I don´t know wether you want to replace the rear speakers or install a new set. In that case you won`t find any wires for loud speakers :-(
I hope my English is good enough to make me understand.
kind regards and nice evening
Tom

Hi,

Thanks alot for your post Tom and although it was late yesterday when I read it and kind of dark outside a took a peek at what you suggested and I believe I shouldn't break anything. 2 torx 30 srcrews in the handle like you said 1 torx 20 at the bottom of the panel.

I have now a new question and although I don't want to bother I also don't want to break any clip that might make a difference. It's the following: Behind the inner door opening handle there's a plastic cover, is it part of the panel or does it come off thus leaving the handle in place or does the handle come off with the panel?

P.S. Your english is great and thanks for your time.

Best regards,
Nelson

Hi Nelson,

it took me a while to understand your last problem, but I think I know what you mean.
Did you remove the upper part of the black plastic door handle (it´s nothing more than a cover)? I did it myself and it took me not more than 15 seconds with a srewdriver and my fingers, no problem :-) But why the hell does VW always use these f*cking Torx Screws? These two screws within the door handle seemed to be size Torx 30 or bigger. In my former Golf IV there have been normal screws. VW don´t want you or me or any other customer to remove any part of the car without the car mechanic in the VW garage :-(
Are you quite sure the size of the TORX screw below the red spotlight is TORX 20 ? I checked it with my TORX 15 and it fits perfectly.
You are writing about the cover behind the door opening handle? I guess you mean the black plastic cover behind the silver metal door opener?
If that´s so, don´t try to remove the metal door opening handle or the black plastic cover , it is all part of the door panel and can´t be removed without damage them. (This is the situation in my former car and there shouldn´t be any difference to the new Golf) The steel wire (I don´t know the english expression for "Bowdenzug"😉 can only be removed when the door-panel is off (or loose)and only from the back or rear of the panel!!
Keep the loose door panel in your left hand (or the right one) and try to find the eye to remove the hook of this "Bowdenzug" with the other hand, but only from the back or rear of the door panel
I´m not a car mechanic and managed it in a few moments
You are worried of bothering me? I don´t think so, writing in english helps me to improve my english knowledge and explaining such technical details is more difficult for me than a simple "small talk".
But I wonder how do you get along with all these german written postings ? Are you able to read a bit german language and understand the content , but unable to write in german (this is a big difference!).
I hope my suggestions would be helpful for you and my english is good enough to make me understand clearly.

kind regards and nice evening

Tom

Thank you, you are right about it being torx 15 my mistake and the inner ones I haven't tried are either torx 25 or 30. What you explained is what I was asking, although simple to point out not as simple to explain. I to am not a mechanic I'm curious and sometimes I'm better off doing these small things myself with a little patience and alot less expense. I to was able to pry off the handle cover with my fingers but since it was getting dark I didn't go much further.
I have some dissassembly diagrams of the dashboard, glove compartment sent to me by a member of this forum so if your interested I can e-mail you them.
I can understand a little German, I took 2 years in school but this was back in 1985-86 so I'm very rusty.

Best regards and thanks for your big and friendly help,

Nelson

Guten abend liebe Abend-Surfer,

Sorry, sorry...

My english may be decent but honestly my German isn't. I'm mostly posting in this forum because of the following. I purchased last November a new VW Golf V and although I was ans am pretty satisfied with the car I began to notice some flaws. These flaws were basically the streamer plastic part wasn't and isn't correctly fitted and the ricgt hand side rear door was misaligned. I took my car to the VW dealer, unfortunately where I live, the Azores islands, Portugal, is the only one to serve me and the first time I took in the car it took them the whole day only to leave things worse. I e-mailed the importer and they said they were going to look into this problem. About a week later I got a call from the dealer saying they were expecting a rear door and the streamer panel so that they could substitute them. After a while and after I contacted them wondering when the parts would arrive they called me to let me know they has already arrived and that I could take the car in. After taking the car they phoned me saying that they'd appreciate it if I could go there to see what they were going to do. I went to the dealer and the person responsible for servicing the car started to say that it wasn't worth putting in a new door that the streamer and all surroundings were going to be changed. To my ignorance I said OK don't change the door and I trusted them in substituting the surroundings and object holder. I don't have the auto air conditioning in my model so I have sort of an open compartment over the streamers. They changed the surroundings but didn't change the cracked object holder. It makes noise the door continues poorly aligned and I've already regreted my mistake.

I tried to make a long story short but couldn't so I started make some minor fixes myself since I don't have time to go everday to VW, another mistake probably.

My question to the forum or to anyone that may take the time to help me is:

-In your opinion what should I do?

Thanks for the help and sorry if not everyone can understand but as you can see I'm pretty dissapointed with the service I've been getting until now.

Best regards and thankyou,
Nelson
