Try the A7 to the south after the ELBTUNNEL. Drive some 20-25 Km and then you will have 3 lanes with no limit!

Happy driving!! 😁

Hello,

be safe ... if you don't have any experience with fast driving (maybe clubracing in UK ?), don't try to get to fast. Otherwise you are not the first to have an heavy accident because of "trying to go fast".

And be aware of everything if you are not used to drive so fast. I have coworkers from the UK, France and other european countries who were first scared to drive here.

Thanks everybody.

I have track experiance but nothing like driving top speed on a Autobahn.

I intend to start off slowly and build things up when I feel comfortable.

I think this is my route so far:

Cologne to the A61 (via A555 and many others) from the A61 to the A6 then A7 then A8 to Munich.

At this time of year am I best off going to Berlin? Im a bit concerned there will be snow in the South.

Hmm
i am not sure but The A8 to munich have a limit of 120 (6am - 20pm) and just two Lines!

Drive in the evening, cos les of traffic.

Sorry but my english is very good.

Why do you apologize for your good English? 😉

A little Tip from me: try the A20 from Lübeck to the East, but not Friday evening oder Sunday afternoon because of traffic.

And remember: look over your left shoulder 😉
Have fun 😁

Yes, the A555 between cologne and bonn is a wonderful 3 lane highway without speedlimit.

But there is much traffic in the rush-hours and often a slow driver is blocking the left lane. Of course overtaking in germany only is allowed on the left side, but I think you know that.
In the early morning or late evening you can test the top speed of your car there without great problems, especially at the weekend, saturday and sunday. In the week, from monday to friday the traffic is higher. During the summer I'm driving my topspeed roundabout 250 kph there every week. It's a lot of fun, espacially in the summer evening hours, when the sun is going down late and the traffic is low. Surely it's a little bit dangerous, and you always have to be prepared to brake extremly hard, if someone slower in front of you changes the lane from right to left, without seeing you. But when the A555 is not highly frequented, the risk is acceptable low.

The advantage of the A555 is, that it's only 20 km long, and there are rounds at both ends in Köln and in Bonn, so you can drive several times in both directions without stopping.

Driving at topspeed without eperience is not that easy, when you're doing this for the first time. In germany we really are privileged to have the possibility to drive fast nearly without sanctions. Drivers from other countrys normaly don't have the chance to colect the necessary highspeed experience like the lucky germans do. So be careful, and rise your speed slowly. Have fun.

This is my NEW planned route:

have fun driving. 🙂

and if you could write a short report what impressions you got, etc. that would be nice. 😉

we are used to the speed people drive on the german autobahn and its always great reading the story of someone who usually doesnt drive that fast.

Well, if you come to Rhineland-Palatinate, the A61 is limited.

I don't know your time schedule und I don't know how important this type of speeding ist for you.

You may choose a detour at Cologne A4 Siegen - Wetzlar - A5 Frankfurt. It's mostly unlimited between Siegen and Frankfurt. Up to Wetzlar, there are two lanes and some curves, as the autobahn crosses some low mountain range.
When you come closer to Frankfurt, the autobahn becomes straight and has 3, later 4 lanes without speed limit. However, you should be very careful, and I recommend you not driving this route in traffic. Even heaviest traffic doesn't stop the guys from Franfurt driving over 200 kph on the fastest (4th) lane.

In any case it's vital choosing right day and right time.

Greetings
