Identifying my Audi 80
Hi,
My german is a bit rusty so I'm doing this in English.
I bought an audi a while back,
I'm completely in love with it, best car I ever had.
But i can't make out the build.
It's from 1991.
and it's an audi 80 1.8 s
What I can't make out is,
is it a 89 (b3) or a b4?
I'm not a mechanix, in fact I don't know much about cars, but I really fell in love with this car and I'm thinking of modifying the body work.
Where can i get the parts for something like that?
How do I start with something like this?
Thanks for your time.

it's an Audi B3 also named Type 89.
1.8S with 90PS right?
part's? Where are you from? I thing you had to search a tuner in your country. Getting the parts from germany is expensive, isnt it?
How to start? depends on your wishes! What do you want to modify?
Well I saw pictures of audi 0's and I'm really impressed with the things i can do.
But before i start adding to the bodywork I was wondering what options I have for souping up the engine.
Having a cool car with only 90ps doesn't make that much sense to me, so what can I do here?
Then there is the bodywork,
Right now it';s all standard, things i want to change is the hood/grill the rront spoiler and the lower spoiler at the back.
Make it hang lower over the ground a bit too,
so I'm interested in engine tuning and visual tuning.
But I want to know if this engine is worth the hassle, should i be looking for a quattro?
the engine?
hmmmm more then 110-115ps are not possible (with not too expensive modifications).
In this point
a Audi 2.0E (115PS) up to about 130-140PS
or a Audi 90 2.3E (133/136PS) up to about 150PS
or Audi 2.3E 20V (170PS) up to about 190PS
will be better.
(All B3)
Think over it.
The Body work?
There are many possibilitys: Rear Spoiler, Front Spoiler...
Take a look at this ... www.duw.de
there you'll see all possibilitys.

And yet another question.
between the b3 and the b4, the optical difference is the hood and the grill?
b3 grill stays down when hood goes up,
b4 grill is part of the hood.
Is it possible to swap these hoods/grills?
So could I put the hood and grill of a b4 on a b3 without having to do very serious modifications?
I'm starting to get an idea of how I want it to look.
And I like the hood of the b4 better than the b3.
I'm still negotiating with some car dealers hoping i can get a deal where i can swap my b3 for a b4 2.3e
hehehehe
Oh and another thing, some punk stole the 4 rings logo from the back of my car last night (wait till i get my hands on him), where can I get a new one?
Can I buy one new or would i be best off searching for a car wrecker?
Thanks for any input,
When I finish styling my car I'll come and show it and I'll bring a case of warsteiner to thank you.
"Is it possible to swap these hoods/grills? "
yes, it is.
"And I like the hood of the b4 better than the b3. "
Realy? imho the hood of the b3 is more beautyfull 🙂

Not an bad Idea, but the b4 is 200kg heavier then an b3, 0-100 with B4 2.3E about 9,5s, Not as fast as an B3 2.3E about <9s. But the 5 Cylinder is a fine engine!
"...where can I get a new one? "
Yes, at your Audi Dealer, is'nt expensive

Realy? But it 'll be a far from the nederlands 🙂
}"Is it possible to swap these hoods/grills? "
}yes, it is.
Can I do it (i'm a newbie)? Or should i look for a mechanic?
>Realy? imho the hood of the b3 is more beautyfull
Dunno mate, the b3 hood looks somewhat lika an old vectra, while I really like the way the grill falls into the b4.
Looks better with the spoilers too.

So just switching hoods would do the trick too?

I live fairly close to Germany, where abouts do you live, so i can estimate the distance.
I live near Venlo.
Anyway, when it's finished I'll be doing a lot of trips 🙂 I'm not gonna build it to let it grow old on my doorstep 🙂
i try to get the infos of switching the hoos.
But just switching the hoos will not make an B3 an B4, the are some more differents.🙂
If you like we can getting in E-Mail Kontakt. I don't like to say in a Forum where i'm from.

In my opinion you shouldn't replace the B3 hood
by a B4 hood!
I've seen a B3 a couple of months ago with a B4 hood
and it looked very silly.
The B4 hood doesn't fit to the design of a B3
sedan, believe me!
