Audi A3 8P sun roof just explode !!!

Audi A3 8P

Hello,

Sorry to be in english... but it's very importante...

The glass of sun roof car of my brother, an Audi A3 8P with 7 months of use, literally, blew up!
It seems well plus one implosion, therefore it is seen for the photos that the energy was from inside to outside.
Conditions:
Running in auto-road to a speed of 130Km, with air conditioned on (22º internal temperature, 27º external temperature), closed windows with the sun roof closed but with the internal covering a little opened. Suddenly an enormous boom, glass splinters for all the side, the central part of the glass “flies” and goes to beat in the car that behind followed also breaking the windshield.
Also the Audi passenger suffers some small cuts due to the splinters that extremely are sharpened. …
Today the car goes to Audi to see what they say. It only can be construction defect and we want that the Audi emits an official reply regarding this situation that is very serious and could bring disastrous consequences… (I leave to your imagination).
I come back to emphasize (and it’s the this most serious) is that the related explosion did not have to no rock or any shock in the sun roof, by the way the conductor of the back vehicle that was reached by the “broken glass” of the glass it’s available to be witness of the occurred one. What it occurred was “literally” an implosion of energies.
No matter how much it can think that it is a situation to happen very rare, such does not leave of being sufficiently serious.

Lets wait....

hi and welcome to MT.de,

the "open sky" roof looks like it's been hit by a stone. Are you sure that you didn't passed a bridge?

Hi,

I'm sorry for what happened to you and your A3 ! But in which condition was the road itself ? Was it in mint condition, or were there holes and little stones etc ?! Has the accident occurred on a motorway or normal road ?

When I first saw the image of your roof I immediately had to think of a hole in the tarmac which might have forced the A3 to tweak in his suspension, but this is more then unlikely since your A3 is only 7 months old...
But nevertheless the question ; have you ever had an accident with the car before that event ?

Regards,
Charles

A warm welcome also from me. I think I heard that once before semewhere - it is usually caused by tension in the glass. This can result from improper assembly or production failures.
Nonetheless, I don´t think that this is a mass problem with that type of roof...

Cheers

Das sieht fast so aus als sei es von innen nach aussen geborsten.... *hm*

Hi,

No, I didn't passed a bridge and if you look the foto you can see clearly that "energy" cames from inside to outside.

Hi,

The accident accurred in a motorway with no cars in front, very good road conditions, with no bridges (in that place) and the car is brand new, with no type of accident at all.

José

My words 🙂

Altavista-Translator:
That looks nearly in such a way as if it burst from the inside outward

pretty unusual, I never heard of anything like that. ask your dealer about it, I'm pretty sure it will be repaired on Audis costs. but maybe it will take time as such a fault will be of big interest for Audi.

best

Well, I assume that there must be some scuffs or deeper scratches on your sun roof afore!!!
This would explain that with no external circumstances your roof crumbles like that.

In this case only a little tension of the structure of the car's body would be sufficient to produce this result.

Therefore you have been driving relatively slow I have no other explanation for this strange occurrence.

I guess, Audi will exactly come to this conclusion and will also decline the responsibility. As an inversion of argument Audi will deny any acceptance of guarantee.
I'm sorry and hope most serious that I'm wrong!!!

Good Luck!

So, this is the actual situation:

The dealer was surprised with this situation, they never see nothing like that. They took several pictures and made same reports that they use for situation like that.

According them, they will send the pictures and report to SIVA (that is the importer for VAG cars in Portugal).

According dealer maybe some engineers from SIVA will came to see the car, take some pieces of glass to do some tests.

They don’t said that was a design problem but they didn’t said either that wasn’t Audi responsibility; they said just SIVA and AUDI can assume responsibility or not.

The car will be at dealer for long times, I suppose….

When I have more information, I’ll post here.

in another thread was mentioned that the OSS did even survive a heavy thunderstorm with big hailstones
