import taxes and registration fees
Sorry for the English, my German is not so good.
I am looking at a 2006 US-car in Germany with American registration near Nuremberg. The car belongs to a US-soldier. I am having trouble finding a company/person near Nuremberg that can help me make the car street legal in Germany, and to tell me what the costs are.
1. The custom part is 10% but what are the taxes (15-19%)???
2. Rebuild costs for German/EU standard
3. Exhaust/Abgas certificate
4. German registration.
There "must" be a company near Nuremberg, or anywhere, that can do this for me, can anobody help me? Can anybody estimate above costs? I would very much appreciate an answer from someone who has done this before, aöll over Germany!

Buying the complete package will save time, and time is money, so for me it is a win-win situation.
I have now received quotes from 2 sources for the trailblazer and the gto. The mustang EVERYBODY can do it seems!
off-topic:
I really prefer the look of the mustang to the gto, but the gto is rarer and more powerful, and I cannot believe the mustang does not have independent rear suspension......
Back to topic: I found this text on uscars24
"Sollten Sie das Fahrzeug noch während Ihrer Militär-Zugehörigkeit an eine in Deutschland lebende Person verkaufen wollen, ist dies auch möglich. Es werden dann 10% Einfuhrzoll und 16% Einfuhrumsatzsteuer fällig."
Is there a different tax here? 19% or 16%. Does it apply to me as a "Swede"?

Oh, the text is outdated. On 1.1.2007 the tax (VAT) was risen from 16% to 19% (by the way, the politicians were talking about 1 or 2% before the election, these guys really suck...).
I'm not sure on this, but I think as Sweden and Germany are members of the EU you can probably choose where to pay the customs and taxes. As far as I know you have to pay customs and taxes where the cars "enters" Germany. So if you buy a car in Nuernberg, you have to pay it in Nuernberg. Again, I'm not sure on this. Since you are from Sweden, it should be possible to pay customs and taxes in Sweden.
Like I wrote before, there are several german guys importing classic US cars in Rotterdam. They ship these cars to Rotterdam (The Netherlands) instead of Bremerhaven (Germany) because they don't have to pay any customs and only 6% tax over there.
When you want to register an imported car in Germany you need to show that you paid customs and taxes, and this is done by a paper called "Zoll Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung".

"Zoll Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung".
Cool word! That is what I like about the German language, that just like Swedish you can create veeeery long words :-)
Oh, well, the mustangs and the gto I am looking at are not classic cars, so the taxes come into play anyway, and as mentioned, the tax in Sweden is 25%.
