Amg trim and smaller rims. Does this look ok or not?

Mercedes

I have Glc 250d on order with Amg trim and 20" Amg rims and running boards. I have also bought 17" winter rims for this car. They have a r04 model number.

Will this look stupid on this car? I think r04 rims look good on it's own but what do you think?

One photo i found on the internet with r04 rims is attached.

17" will not fit, you need minimum 18" rims. The break disks are bigger with AMG trim.

That is bad news. Dealer didn't warn me about this issue. I'll check with them again.

And it will look horrible.

Why don´t you put only the Winter Tires on the original Rims ? Then you´ll have the same Look over the year...

Just buy winter tires. No rims

Well AMG trim is pretty much the same as standard, not much difference between cars. And 17" look good on standard GLC. Plus we have a lot of snow here and i need functional car in the winter, so i think 20" rims and tires will be too wide and very expensive to run and replace with summer ones every 6 months.

That's why i went for narrower tires and smaller rims.

That was maybe 20 years ago so ...

Not really. There is very strong believe on forums that you should use as narrow tire as possible for winter (snow) conditions.

I´ve ordered 18" for Winter and I guess it´s fine. With AMG outside package 18" is the smallest option because of the larger brake discs as already said. Therefore 17" won´t fit. Some (tire/rim) dealers doesn´t know this.

Hi

You always speak about rims diameter (17,18, 20 inches) but not about the important wheel width for a winter wheel set.

With AMG outer trim you have no choice: 18 inches rims are required. In combination with an 235 wheel size, perfect for me. Less isn't recommended and approved by MB.
Only in snow narrow wheels are in advantage, due to their bigger load per surface area. In wet or dry conditions they loose their advantages.

P.S. Need to edit my input, due to: https://www.mercedes-benz.de/.../tires_and_rim.html

I read a test 1 year ago with wide winter tires. Due to the newest technology, the wide winter tires are at least equal to the narrow ones.

But if you are fine with the 18", take them... You won´t make a mistake 🙂

Also keep in mind that tire chains are not allowed with 20" rims for the x253.
So in fact with AMG trim only 18" or 19" winter tires makes sense 😉

Chains are not a problem, since i never use them.
But i find it unbelievable, that dealer didn't know about AMG trim and 17" rims problem. I'll wait for their answer about this and if they officialy confirm that 17" rims don't go on AMG trim 250d i'll have to decide with them about different rims and tires or just 20" winter tires.

Interesting. I contacted Mercedes and they say disc brakes are the same on standard GLC 250d and on GLC 250d AMG line. And that 17" rims will fit.

I've attached the allowed tire-/wheel-combinations - hope this helps 🙄

Hi

MB's tires/rims recommendations tells a different story:

GLC (X253) 250d not possible with 17 inch rims when GLC comes with following codes: P31 (AMG-LINE), U29 (Sportbremsanlage).

Both come with bigger break disks in the front.
