7G+ kicks when shifting gears 5->4
Dear All,
Die Google-Übersetzung der englische Text ist unten, sorry für seine Qualität 🙂
First of all, my apologies for writing here in English, but http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/motor-talk-in-english-b878.html looks like a not very popular place for discussions 🙂 and my question is about S212 mopf 2013 (WIN WDD2122341A907059, gearbox 722995 07 647854).
I bought this car about 9 months ago. I found a week or two ago some noticeable (but not too strong, I felt stronger ones with my former MMC Grandis 🙂) kick when the gearbox shifts from the 5th gear to the 4th one when decelerating (breaking or just slowly reducing the speed).
1. This happens with the cold gearbox only - it disappears after driving a few tens of kilometers;
2. This happens only if the car decelerates and newer in case of shifting 5->4 to increase the speed.
3. I believe that this came with low temperatures (<10C).
4. All other gears are shifting very smooth.
Could you please suggest me if I should worry about this and visit a dealer? Or this is something expected? 🙂
Danke! 🙂

1. Dies geschieht nur mit dem Kaltgetriebe - das nach der Fahrt ein paar Dutzend Kilometer verschwindet;
Danke! 🙂

My E200 is 22 months old and I have the same problem. I have an appointment at the Mercedes dealer in two weeks for a software update and will apprise you about the outcome.
Hi, Peter_Nik,
I picked up my E200 Mopf from the MB dealer yesterday. They did a software update and everything is okay now. It drives smooth.
If the kicks still exist, get with your dealer and get a software update done.
Blaise.

All Software Updates have to do anyway made in the dealer service !?
In age of car (22 months) it would therefore be up to date anyway!
The one should assume at a reasonable dealer!
Nothing to do with transmission adaption (written before)!

Peter_Nik,
Guess what? My car is at the dealer again. The problems resumed. They had it since last Friday and are in contact with the experts in Stuttgart. A valve was changed but they noticed the next morning that it didn't help. If nothing works, they will have to replace the whole gearbox.
I will keep you posted.
Mendy.
Mendy, thank you very much for sharing your experience.
Actually I plan to ask the question about this issue at the planned visit to the MB dealer for the periodic maintenance in this January - let's see.
Good luck with your gearbox...
I reported this problem to the MB dealer before the A-service today.
The car was checked and the gearbox software was updated. It behaves noticeably differently comparing to the time before the update. Probably it needs to learn my driving habits again 🙂.
Let's see if this fixed this issue///
Update after a couple of days driving (about 30-40km in total): it seems like the issue is less pronounced now, but still exists.
I'll keep you posted 🙂.
Dear All,
Do you know if there are any limitations in the Junge Sterne Garantie for fixing the issues with the gearbox?
The gearbox software was updated a month ago during the periodic maintenance, but this didn't help, the gearbox still kicks when downshifting 5->4 in the manual or automatic mode. The issue disappears when the engine temperature is about 70C or higher.
Looks like the problem returns as it was with the Mendy's car.
I'm going to visit the MB dealer on the next week to let them do the checks and hopefully fix this.
Do you know if I should pay for the tests and for the repair in this case?
The original warranty was ended in October 2015, now I have the Junge Sterne one only.
Danke!
Hi Peter_Nik,
I have the "Junge Stern" warranty. That will do. Give it a try. I didn't have to pay for the rental car they provided.
Cheers.
Danke, Mendy.
Actually I have some recent news: my E200 is in the MB garage now and I got the call 1 hour ago that the mechanic tested it and confirmed the problem.
Their plan is to open the gearbox to check what's going on inside, but first the dealer is verifying right now if my case is covered by the JS warranty.
So your update is really encouraging 🙂.
Heh, the Dutch MB dealer told me that this problem with the gearbox is not covered by the Junge Sterne warranty in NL, but is covered in Germany. I'm surprised with this and I'm going to escalate this to the MB Junge Sterne support tomorrow.
My car will be at the dealership on Monday morning for the same problem. I will keep you advised.
Regards
Achim
