7G+ kicks when shifting gears 5->4
Dear All,
Die Google-Übersetzung der englische Text ist unten, sorry für seine Qualität
First of all, my apologies for writing here in English, but http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/motor-talk-in-english-b878.html looks like a not very popular place for discussions and my question is about S212 mopf 2013 (WIN WDD2122341A907059, gearbox 722995 07 647854).
I bought this car about 9 months ago. I found a week or two ago some noticeable (but not too strong, I felt stronger ones with my former MMC Grandis ) kick when the gearbox shifts from the 5th gear to the 4th one when decelerating (breaking or just slowly reducing the speed).
1. This happens with the cold gearbox only - it disappears after driving a few tens of kilometers;
2. This happens only if the car decelerates and newer in case of shifting 5->4 to increase the speed.
3. I believe that this came with low temperatures (<10C).
4. All other gears are shifting very smooth.
Could you please suggest me if I should worry about this and visit a dealer? Or this is something expected?
Danke!

1. Dies geschieht nur mit dem Kaltgetriebe - das nach der Fahrt ein paar Dutzend Kilometer verschwindet;
Danke!

Update: these kicks mostly disappeared after the reset.

Hi Peter,
some problems with the gearbox can get fixed by filling in a half liter more of the gearbox-oil than suggested by the manual. Your garage should know this!
Good luck
Franjo, thank you very much for the suggestion.
I'll tell this to the garage.
Achim, danke! Please keep us updated.
By the way, finally my current MB dealer in NL refused to accept the Junge Sterne warranty (!!!), so I'm looking for another one near me in NL or BE.

Or maybe just cross over to Germany, there the warranty will be a 100% accepted.
Regards Sitzheitzung.
Sitzheitzung, you are absolutely right .
Finally this was the solution: yesterday I made an appointment with this MB service - http://www.mercedes-benz-herbrand.de/.../passenger-cars.html at their dealer near Venlo.
Danke .
I also had the same problem with very hard downshifting from 5 gear to 4 gear when gearbox, water, oil and engine were cold.
Finally my MB service was able to fix this issue by adaption of the gearbox under the same conditions (cold engine, cold oil, cold water and cold gearbox) so I recommend for you to do this adaption.
The service master will need to drive trough all gears and downshift manually and also downshift with kickdown and a notebook with running adaption software will be connected on ODB-port during this "adaption drive".
Good luck and have fun with your Benz!
Kind regards,
Razer
Razer, danke!
Should I provide the link to this thread to the MB dealership before my visit on the coming Saturday?
My car is back from the dealership. They made an update to the gearbox and the downshifts are all perfect now. However the upshifts seem to be a little harsher than before, but there is still no noticeable jerking of the car. I have only driven a few kilometers today. Maybe the situation changes after a few more. I keep you advised here. The update was completely on warranty.
Regards
Achim
Achim, thank you very much for the update.
My visit to the German dealership is in 5 days, let's see what they find...
By the way, did the dealership explain the source of the issue in the case of your car?
The dealership made a test drive to confirm the problem and updated it. After a second test drive the hard downshifts from 5 to 4 disappered. When I picked up the car, I was asked to drive a couple of days and report back whether the problem is solved. They wanted to also check the ATF level in the gearbox, but since I could only leave the car in the dealership for a limited time, time ran out on the mechanics. If problems continue and the fluid level is correct, the mechanic said, they would first open the oil pan, optically inspect the inside for particles (magnet) and perform an ATF change.
This afternoon I drove a couple of kilometers in town and upshifst got rather harsh. If this continues tomorrow morning on my way to work, I will reset the gearbox before I drive home and see if the upshifts improve.
Regards
Achim

Hello,
Thank you for asking.
This was quite a long time ago!
As far as I remember, the gearbox was checked and above-the-normal wear level was detected.
Some details were replaced and the gearbox works OK since then.
