Which Tires are Best for Handling and Comfort in Winter Conditions?
Hello everyone,
I need some help in selecting the correct winter tires. I have a 2018 Audi A4, and I find that my current tires just aren't the best at providing the balance between handling and ride quality in cold weather. I do most of my driving in city traffic, as well as longer highway driving, so I'm actually hoping to find a tire that has good traction in snow and ice without sacrificing too much ride quality.
I came across this website:https://www.motor-talk.power-bi-interview-questions-de/forum/aktion/PostJump.html?postId=57785923&highlight=Tires still need some help to choose which tires are Best for Handling.
I’ve seen brands like Michelin and Continental pop up a lot, but I’m wondering if anyone here has personal experience with these or other brands that really stand out in winter conditions. How do they compare when it comes to road noise, durability, and overall performance in varying winter weather?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I would like to ensure that I am selecting the appropriate tire for both comfort and safety.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I am using the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 on my BMW. They are winner of the ADAC test 2024 and comfort as well as noise level is really good. Driving behaviour is great however there hasn't been much snow in the area I live in.
I have a really clear answer: It depends on… There is not THE winter tyre out there.
First of all: which car do you own? Small, midsize, large (and heavy)? What are your local winter conditions? A moderate winter with humid or rainy days and mostly lack of snow? Or a hard, cold and snowy winter? Your are writing that you mostly drive in urban regions and on highways (business?). So there is a great chance that you were surprised by snowfall when you started in the sun? How many miles are you driving a year? I would tend not to use All Season Tyres as they try to cover all conditions.
I drove my last car (Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake X218 - about 2 tons and 4WD) on Pirelli P-Zero Winter 255/40 18“. The car before was a Mercedes E Class S212 (also about 2t and 4WD) on Bridgestone Sottozero W240. Both of them has their successor on the market.
I was satisfied by both of them. And I had to drive during hard winter conditions temporarily (see picture). They performed well, kept the track well especially in 15cm fresh snow. As I am driving relatively reserved I didn‘t push them to the limit. For me they met all requirements. So for large and heavy cars with much hp I can recommend them! The Audi A4 is not as massive as a CLS or an E Class but not that far away (depends on motor 1.5 - 1.9t).
Additionally you should read at tyrereviews.com to compare your favorite to the market companions.
Ich find es toll, wenn man in einem deutschsprachigen Forum auch die deutsche Sprache nutzt. Das geht dank Übersetzungsfunktion ziemlich "easy" und man erreicht damit mehr Nutzer.
I think it's great when you use the German language in a German-speaking forum. Thanks to the translation function, this is quite "easy" and you can reach more users.
So liest es sich dann auf Englisch.

Bridgestone Sottozero W240
Ganz sicher?
Danke @Kuhpra - nee, ganz sicher nicht!
Es sind natürlich Pirelli Sottozero W240.
Sorry @azizi as Kuhpra mentioned it was the Pirelli Sottozero, not Bridgestone.
