Q7 vs BMW X5
Hi folks
First of all please allow me to apologize for not writing in German, but being danish living in the Netherlands my German is most probably a lot worse than your english!!!
And - being Danish I could not find a forum "back home" since these cars cost in excess of 160.000 EUR in Denmark, so - here I am hoping that you will reply anyway (in German of course) .
I am currently driving an almost 10 year old Audi A6 avant 2.8 Quattro, and will be ordering a new car within the next 3-4 weeks. For a long time I was sure that it would be the Audi Q7 3.0 tdi, but then the new X5 came along. Having looked at both, testdriven both, compared them endlessly etc. I am not a lot further. The X5 clearly has the better engine (especially the SD!), but the Audi has the larger interior (7 seats and still a bit of boot-space, or 5 seats and a large boot).
Until a couple of days ago I was sure that the Q7 would eventually win the race, but I must admit that I am a bit disturbed about some negative threads on this forum mentioning chronical problems with the Q7. It somehow seems unacceptable that a car of this class (and price!!!) can not get rid of rainwater from the window of the drivers door.....
Another one that I have come across a couple of times is the rattling noises from (parts of) the interior - is that something that a lot of you have experienced?
And finally - as I have just opened a similar thread in the X5 forum, I also have to ask here whether some of you have done the same comparison as I am currently doing (Q7 3.0 tdi vs X5 3.0 sd) and what made you go for the Q7.
Thanks in advance - looking forward to reading your reactions!!!

Audi parking system advanced....
it's not a MUST HAVE, though its a useful feature in my opinion
@suworow

Hi again out there
Message received about the handling in the city - and again it confirms what I already thought. Q7 is a big car but still only marginally bigger than the A6 (stone-age...) we currently drive. It will be my wife driving the Q7 on everyday basis, and she is not afraid of the size (of the car of course....?!?!?!) at all, but actually insisted on the Q7 because of potentially less stress when packing it for the longer trips.
Ewa - I will pass on your experience to my wife as well - it is a nice benchmark for her to live up to.
Again - thanks to all of you.
P.S.: I made the mistake to mention on the X5 forum that I am going for the Q7, so now I am threatened with a special Q7 tax when passing through Germany on the way to Denmark!!!! Any ideas on how to counter that?

how about: It´s worth it?
I thought about the X5 a long time myself and went for the Q7 for different reasons. I still like the X5 very much and there are things I would like in the Q7 that my 535d had offered (and vice versa). Maybe my next car will be even the X5 BUT that doesn´t mean the Q7 would be only 2nd choice.
Besides that almost everything is said.

kein thema... 😉
@ thedane, made a decision already? by the way, if u choose the Q7- which engine (gas or diesel)?

What kind of tax they are talking about? (Maut? = Highway-Tax?). The Maut is only charged to trucks. You know those slow and long vehicles carrying goods... In Germany the Q7 is considered as a normal car like A6, VW Golf or Fiat Panda ;-)
No special taxes, no extra speed limit, no other ristrictions. Point.
Maybe you have heard about the new 'Umweltzonen' in cities where you're only allowed to go with either a green, yellow or red button pointing out the pollution of your car. Guess what: Q7 has a green status -> environmental saviour ;-)
Cheers
Sascha
I think they are just kidding about the big dimensions of the Cow (Q7).
