After all you still have warranty. So if you feels sth. is not working properly, I would recommend visiting a BMW dealer and ask him to double check.
It can be heard and felt at idle because this is the only moment when you can make the difference between stationary on P/N and when you engage the transmission in D or R.
I was thinking that it might be something related to the gearbox torque converter.
As for the warranty, most probably I have to make a visit to the dealer but I don't want to find myself into a very long discussion caused by the fact that they usually tries to convince the clients that this is something normal, bla, bla, bla ... you know what I mean. All this because there is nothing to claim when it comes to functionality and this would have proven only a sign of wear at some mechanism but still functional 🙂
I've already compared with other similar cars and check 3 series or 4 series equipped with the same engine and gearbox and I wasn't able to hear the sound so loud when the gear is in D or R. This sound comes only when the engine and the gearbox is engaged.
Anyway, maybe is something common and it can be seen on other cars as well ... yet, I wasn't able to find similar situations on other threads.
