Hi guys,
A Dutch driver of a 50TDI Avant here and hopefully English is oke, otherwise it would be Google Translate, let me know if someone needs it.
So unfortunately I also have braking issues with my 50TDI.
It all started a year ago when I had a Golf 7 R Variant and the brakes just stopped when I was driving from NL to Austria while I was driving 200-220 km/h.
After some changements to the brake pads (EBC Yellowstuff) I eventually upgraded it to 4 pots of Porsche Macan and my problem more or less was gone.
Since 1 month I have a beautiful 50TDI Avant and during my first ride from NL to Austria my original brakes got so overheated that they completely stopped doing anything.
So as an advisement of several people - aswel an Audi specialist - they said;
"take an sports brand (such as EBC) and try those on your car"
I did that and my new set (front and back - discs and pads) lasted 2000 km before the same freaking issue occured.
My speed was between 180-220 km/h.
If someone crosses your road while you drive 220 km/h and you have to brake really hard, your brakes are more or less dead ánd they simply don't brake.
Just to be clear, I take extremely good care of my car. It has gotten to a point where I think this "stinks". My car is originally a German car, had all of his service in Germany, so my Dutch importor can't do anything for me.
Therefore I contacted Audi AG's customer service. Had to jump through all kind of hoops, had to sent them emails etc etc.
And they literally said after a week; "Oh yeah, but it's a Verschleißteil, so yeah, we can't do anything for you.."
And it just doesn't make sense. How do you want to stop a car that weighs almost 2000 kg, and that has just 350mm brakes?
I had those brakes on my Golf R and that weighs around 1500 kg..
In the meanwhile I installed the latest RS6 steel brakes of the 4K. That's a 420mm x 40mm and 370mm x 34mm.
If you do this you also have to change the Hauptbremszylinder and the Bremskraftverstärker of the RS6, otherwise you can't create the power that you need to those immensly huge brakes.
Those two parts will be installed next Tuesday.
And regarding Audi AG;
This stinks and when it stinks I get highly motivated to get some answers or a compensation.
Probably it won't matter that much, but I am living only 2 hours away from Ingolstadt and I am planning to drive to them and ask for a crazy discount for the parts of the RS6 steel brakes.
I will keep you posted.
(P.s. the installation that is on my car of a RS6 is through a friended company that sells parts and they charged me €4.100 incl everything + installation)
Regards,
Art
