...replacing the EGR-cooler calls for subsequent vacuum-bleeding the cooling system - work the shops wish to spare.
This may result in head gasket failure, due to residual air bubbles.
The firmware update implements a new fault routine:
In order to deal with possible engine fires due to EGR-cooler leakage a detected boost pressure drop is considered a hazard, because it may indicate a molten - and therefore perforated - intake manifold.
As a result the engine will go in limp-mode (imagine this while overtaking in traffic).
Clearing the fault from memory requires a successfull "airmass system test".
You'll be better off without the update.
An update on the recall on my F10 ,replacing the driver airbag and the EGR cooler, Last week my car was at the BMW dealer left the car there at 08h in the morning and at 17h i got my car back after singing the paper that i refused the programming of the car. (i told them even if i agreed to let them program the car ,Ista would refuse to proceed with the update because of the 2 retrofits done on my car )
Everything went well so they said ,they did bleed the cooling system vacuum ,and after a week still no problems.
Today i got a letter from BMW Benelux to inform me that they got a message from the BMW dealer that they changed the drivers airbag and the replaced the Korens AGR cooler with a BorgWarner but that i refused the program update, but BMW Germany wanted to let me know that i still can go back to the dealer to do the update for free and that BMW Germany advice to all customers is to do the program update regarding possible hazard of the car getting on fire.
If the update is not done then BMW Germany is not responsible for any actions that occur with my car that are a result of me refusing to do the update.
But i don't care since because since i had the AGR valve programmed to always stay closed by my tuner i never had any los of coolant .
Best regards
