Do I need to do a service for my old 316i? Thank you
Hello, I bought a bmw e46 316i this year on July. And it is built in 2002 and the mileage is 110000km when I buy it. The car was serviced in BMW workshop every 20000 km. And last service is at about 101000km. The problem is that the last service is done on 20.09.2019. And the previous owner spent about 550 euro for the inspection 2. The board computer on my e46 showed that I need to do inspection after about 18600km. Do I need to do the service now? Because the last service is 3 years ago. Or I can trust my board computer. The engine, brake are all in good condition. Moreover, doing a service in BMW workshop is really expensive. Do I have to go there for an inspection? Thank you. The pictures are the invoice of last service.

Why do you think, that it should be replaced?
Anyway, ist is easy to see, wether it is round or square.
Look here with your VIN:

PS: how could „resusid“ know the 19 %

My car consume a lot of fuel. The city I live has a lot of uphill and downhill, and the car consume about 13L super per 100km when I drive within the city.

That can / will be normal, but I have no 316i.
My 325xiA needs a lot more than that in hilly towns.

It does not matter where you get the service done, but the bare minimum is the oil change and brake fluid! The lifetime of spark plugs, air filter and brake pads are measured by their operational hours. You can talk to the technician to check the state of the brake discs and pads, but they should still be good as new. Buy the engine oil and filter beforehand, if you want to reduce the service costs.Another thing to get it checked by N42 engine, whether the new version of the chain tensioner has already been installed or not. If the engine still has the old version from the factory, get it changed immediately!
Hello, why do I need to check the chain tensioner? How can I know if it has a problem or not? Thank you

If your engine ist the N42-type, than it may have a problem with the timing chain.

OK, I checked the Internet, change the tensioner seems not to be difficult. And how do I know whether it’s replaced or not? Only by looking at the appearance that Is visible in the engine bay?
The new modification has a thin head, the old one has a thick head. You can find pictures in internet to compare

Well. I can’t remove the cover in first picture. So I put my mobile phone inside and took a second picture. I can see the thin head tensioner, am I right? If it’s not clear, I can try to remove the cover and see. Thank you.
I would say, I don't know :-) :-)
Look at this video from 1:33:
I spent a lot of work to open the cover and finally found the true tensioner. It is shown in the picture. I think it’s the old version, what do you think?
Hard to tell, but it seems like the old version with an higher hex head.

Anyway, I bought a new one on ebay. When I receive the new one, I will remove the old one and check whether it’s old version or not. If the one on my engine is already a new version, I will return the one I bought online.
