Check oil warning after 8000 KM after oil servicing...

VW Golf 6 Plus (1KP)

Hallo,

I am new to Cars.

I bought Golf Plus 1.4 TSI DSG Team 2011/Automatic/90KW(122PS)/Petrol/86500 KM Last year May. While purchasing, car was ' Oil Serviced' by handler.

After running around 8000 km, dashboard showed a warning light 'Check oil level'.

I checked oil level, it was at minimum and later Warning light does not display any more.

I have few questions:

1. Is it normal that my car needs new oil fill up for every 8K KM?

2. If normal, Which oil I should use and how much?

3. If not, is it serious issue. It is still in warranty. Should I go to VW workshop?

Thank you!

Hallo,

3. Wenn nicht, ist es ein ernstes Problem. Es ist noch in der Garantie. Soll ich in die VW-Werkstatt gehen?

Ich danke Ihnen!

Let me answer to 1).

Since you did not mention (or check) where the oil level was at the time of purchasing and the oil level before you refilled it, it will be impossible to know the consumption. The best way is to check the oil level now and frequently in order to see the consumption. After that you know the consumption.

Also you need to check if there is any leakage in the oil system.

By the way: the motor code is mentioned in the service booklet, which should be in the glove box. It will be much easier to judge it, if the motor code is known.

1. not normal, but OEM‘s say up to 1l by 1000km is normal

2. check your board instructions, could be 10W40 , or VW specific LL specifications

3. depends on the regulations in your country

Hersteller halten bis zu 1l auf 1000 (eintausend) km normal!

At the time of purchase, oil was full (seller showed the oil level was at max on metal stick indicator)

Nach 8000km von Max auf Min finde ich nicht dramatisch.

Welches Öl ist drin? 5w30 (mit Norm 50400/50700) oder 5w40 (mit Norm 50200)?

VW has changed the maximum oil consumption limit to 0,5l/1000km several years ago, you will also find this information in your manual. The whole range on the dipstick covers circa 1l difference, again you will find a picture with the different dipsticks and the amount of oil that can be refilled in the manual :) So when we assume the oil level was on maximum after purchase, your car needs 1l on 8000km.

According to VW this ist still okay, but for my personal point of view this ist too much. Typically the oil consumption is so low that most of the cars doesn't need to be refilled between the regular oil change.

Possible reasons:

- carbon deposits in the pistion rings (the tsi engines are producing a lot of soot)

- turbo-charger leakage

- wrong oil

You need an engine oil with the vw-approval "VW 502 00" - this one has to be replaced every 15.000km, or your can use "VW 504 00" this oil _can_ be used up to 30.000km. Because of some issues with the timing chain and the soot I would recommend "VW 504 00" or "VW 502 00" with a change once a year or after 15.000km max.

"VW 504 00" or "VW 502 00" can have different viscositys - I wourd recommend 5W30 because this was the oil that was used when the engine was new on the market. The newer petrol engines from VW running with an oil that is "thin as water", "VW 508 00" this oil ist not compatible with your engine but sometimes dealers or workshops ignore this.

Maybe you can find a tag or some information in the service-documentation about the type of oil that was used last time.
